Public Health Warning on Art Coloring Products with Detected Levels of Lead (Batch 2)

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns the public against the purchase and use of the art coloring product MPC CLASSIQUE WATER COLORS which has been verified to contain lead beyond the maximum allowed limit of not more than ninety (90) parts per million (ppm).

Lead is dangerous even at low exposure levels. It produces a spectrum of injury across multiple body systems. In particular, lead affects children’s brain development resulting in reduced intelligence quotient (IQ), behavioral changes such as reduced attention span and increase anti-social behavior, and reduced educational attainment.

Children, because of their physical and mental immaturity has always been considered as a high-risk population. Their hand-to-mouth behaviors as well as their innate curiosity predisposed them to put objects in their mouth resulting to unintended exposure to multiple hazardous substances such as lead. Accordingly, to protect them from unnecessary hazards, parents, parents, school teachers, and guardians are strongly advised to strictly monitor the children especially when they are engaged in activities wherein adult supervision is required.

In light of the above, the public is advised not to purchase and use the aforementioned product. All concerned establishments are warned not to distribute the above-identified product. Moreover, all Local Government Units (LGUs) and Law enforcement Agencies (LEAs) are requested to ensure that the above-identified product is not sold or made available in their localities or areas of jurisdiction.
